Correa joins River Plate in record deal through 2029

River Plate have officially announced the signing of Ángel Correa, completing a club‑record deal with Tigres UANL. The 31‑year‑old forward will undergo medical tests before signing a contract that keeps him at the Monumental until December 2029. Local reports indicate the transfer was finalised for $18 million after weeks of negotiations, marking Correa’s return to Argentina following a decade in Europe and a productive spell in Mexico.

Correa arrived in Buenos Aires on Thursday after agreeing personal terms during a holiday in Madrid, ensuring the move was completed ahead of the Clausura campaign. He scored 23 goals in 54 appearances for Tigres, earning praise from manager Guido Pizarro, who admitted the striker’s departure was inevitable once River submitted a formal bid.

A member of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup and 2021 Copa América winning squads, Correa joins an ambitious River project featuring fellow newcomers Nicolás Otamendi, Mauro Arambarri, Giovanni González, Lucas Beltrán and Rafael Santos Borré.
