Ghana set to skip second friendly before World Cup

Ghana are unlikely to play a second pre‑World Cup friendly, with GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirming that “nothing on paper” exists regarding an additional fixture. Reports had suggested the Black Stars might face Jamaica or Honduras during their U.S. training camp, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement.

Ghana drew 1‑1 with Wales in Cardiff last Tuesday in Carlos Queiroz’s debut match before travelling to Virginia to continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although a further tune‑up game had been explored to give the squad extra rhythm before their opener against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, Twum stated that plans have now been shelved.

He noted that Queiroz could still request a low‑intensity match, but any such decision would be communicated publicly. With no additional friendlies expected, Ghana will remain in Virginia before moving to their base in Rhode Island and then on to Toronto.
