David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, has reaffirmed his intention to sign Jesse Lingard, a free agent who has been working out for the team for the last three weeks. Lingard trained with two MLS teams for a while before joining the Hammers as a trialist. The former England international was available to be signed, but neither Inter Miami nor DC United, led by Wayne Rooney, acted on the offer.
After just one season at the City Ground, Lingard was let go by Nottingham Forest at the end of June. The former England international had a successful loan season with the Hammers in the second part of the 2020–21 season, scoring nine goals in 16 games. While it was expected he would come on a permanent basis from Manchester United, where his contract was set to expire the following year, that purple patch almost helped the East London team qualify for the Champions League that season.
