Leverkusen scores late in the game to force a draw against Bayern Munich

Bayer Leverkusen held 11-time reigning champion Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw and declared itself a Bundesliga championship contender on Friday, thanks to Exequiel Palacios' penalty in injury time. Bayern's Dayot Upamecano scored with the game's final kick, but the France defender was ruled offside by a video review, and Thomas Tuchel's club had to settle for a draw against the only other team to start the season with three victories.

Leon Goretzka appeared to have secured Bayern a late triumph to keep the champion's flawless start intact. But later in extra time, Alphonso Davies was given a VAR penalty for a foul on Jonas Hofmann, and Palacios equalized in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Earlier, Harry Kane had scored for Bayern in the seventh minute to increase his goal tally to four in as many games. While Alejandro Grimaldo had equalized with a brilliantly executed free-kick into the top right corner.
