Sassuolo 2-2 draw with Salernitana

Sassuolo's chances of staying in Serie A were severely damaged on Friday in stoppage time as they lost a two-goal lead against bottom-of-the-table Salernitana 2-2. The Albanian winger Nedim Bajrami was a major factor in Sassuolo's two-goal advantage after the team began the game in second place.

After 37 minutes, Armand Laurienté scored on a feed from Bajrami to make it 1-0, and Bajrami increased their lead at the interval. Salernitana's Antonio Candreva responded with a penalty kick in the 57th minute, but Giulio Maggiore equalized just as it appeared Sassuolo would grab all three points and escape the relegation zone. His goal in the first minute of stoppage time was Salernitana's first in four games and only their fifteenth point overall. It was still at the bottom of the standings, ten points below Sassuolo, and very guaranteed to be relegated with seven games to go.
