Sesko and Openda pushed Leipzig towards a win against Union

RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin 2-0 at home on Sunday with two goals from Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko. It was the Saxons' first Bundesliga triumph since December. Before the match, Leipzig welcomed back defender Willi Orban and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, who was playing in his first league match since October 2022 due to a knee injury. At the eleventh minute, Openda scored a rebound to bring his season total of league goals to 14. Shortly after the break, Sesko headed in a curling cross from David Raum to increase Leipzig's advantage.

Nine minutes later, the Slovenian scored again, but VAR disallowed the goal due to a little offside in the build-up. Union appeared to come alive after the VAR intervention, as they began to go forward and put pressure on Leipzig's defense. But with little over 15 minutes left, defender Christopher Trimmel was sent off for digging his studs into Raum's foot, ending any chance of a Union comeback.
