What Solskjaer and Southampton chiefs have said about Brandon Williams

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is nearing a move to Southampton after a chase that has been going on since the back-end of 2020.

Williams became a big part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad during an injury crisis back in 2019, competing with Luke Shaw for the left-back spot in the starting line-up and performing relatively well throughout.

Last summer United brought in Alex Telles and that saw the playing time of Williams cut dramatically, as he made just five appearances before the January transfer window opened. That led to interest Southampton, with the Saints keen to improve their full-back options.

Williams, 20, would go on to make a further nine appearances before the end of the season across both full-back positions. But it wasn't quite enough to quench his thirst for first-team action and he now looks likely to leave temporarily.
