According to ESPN's Shams Charania, star guard De'Aaron Fox and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum deal. Fox, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of next year, is now permanently committed to the franchise that acquired him during the trade deadline in February.
Fox, 27, had the opportunity to extend his contract with his last team, the Sacramento Kings, last summer, but chose not to do so. The extension would have increased his current rookie-max contract by $165 million and three years. A few weeks after Sacramento selected Tyrese Haliburton with the No. 12 choice in the 2020 NBA Draft, Fox agreed to a five-year contract worth $163 million. Fox appeared in just 62 games last season, averaging 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
