DeVante' Jones, a Michigan guard, has spent much of his first week getting to know his new teammates. The reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year recently withdrew from the NBA Draft and returned to campus, where he is now a member of the Wolverines' practice squad. Hunter Dickinson, who reported Tuesday after withdrawing from the NBA Draft, and Caleb Houstan, who is playing for Team Canada in the FIBA U19 World Cup, are the exceptions.
Diabate is a recruit from IMG Academy and one of three McDonald's All-Americans in Juwan Howard's top-ranked recruiting class. Even if he comes off the bench, the 6-foot-10 forward figures to play significant minutes as a rookie. Diabate might be the primary backup to both Dickinson and Brandon Johns Jr., who are expected to be Michigan's starting frontcourt players. His length and speed allow him to defend ball screens and perimeter players effectively, giving the Wolverines an advantage at that end of the court.
