Thunder and Spurs lead ESPN’s 2027 forecast

As the 2026/27 NBA season approaches, ESPN has released its projections for the upcoming campaign, highlighting a league defined by balance. Since 2019, eight different franchises have won the title, and analysts believe 2027 could produce a ninth consecutive champion. In the Eastern Conference, the defending champion New York Knicks top the predictions with 68 points, followed by the revamped Philadelphia 76ers at 51 after adding LeBron James and Jaylen Brown. Boston and Detroit trail far behind at 17.

Out West, the outlook is a two‑team race. The Oklahoma City Thunder lead with 88 points, narrowly ahead of the San Antonio Spurs at 74, a rematch of last season’s dramatic Conference Finals. ESPN projects both teams above 59 wins, well ahead of the field.

In the title race, Oklahoma City ranks first with 84 points, followed by San Antonio with 74. The Knicks, Sixers and Pistons remain distant challengers.
