In their 2025–26 home opener at Target Center, the Minnesota Timberwolves donned the "Black Tree" jerseys and defeated the Indiana Pacers 114–110, but it cost them. Anthony Edwards, the standout guard for the Timberwolves, only played three minutes on Sunday night but scored five points before being forced to exit the game due to a right hamstring injury. He joined the squad on the bench for the rest of the game. Following the game, Timberwolves coach Chris Finch had no update on Edwards. Due to back spasms, Edwards almost missed Portland's opening night. In the end, he scored 41 points to help the team defeat the Trail Blazers.
Julius Randle led five Timberwolves in double figures without Edwards, scoring 31 points, pulling down four rebounds, and dishing out six assists. Rudy Gobert scored 14 points and 18 rebounds, Donte DiVincenzo contributed 17 points, and Naz Reid had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
