The basketball executives from each club vote for the Executive of the Year, and McNair received 16 first-place votes, 5 second-place votes, and 3 third-place votes. Geoff Petrie, who served as general manager of the Sacramento Kings from 1998 to 2001, is the only other general manager to have earned the honour.
After 16 years, McNair supervised the Kings' return to the playoffs. Last season's trade deadline saw him make his largest move when he swapped Tyrese Haliburton for Domantas Sabonis. He acquired Kevin Huerter through a trade, Malik Monk through free agency, and Keegan Murray through the draught this summer. This is a well-deserved honour for McNair and the team, but it's also just the beginning. The Kings are in a good position to continue and build upon their present success, but as the playoffs shown, there is still much work to be done.
