Utah Jazz was quite active in the offseason signing on Derrick Favors and Jordan Clarkson but the move to trade Rayson Tucker to Cleveland Cavaliers is driven by money. Jazz are trying to salvage as much salary as they can so as not to burden themselves with the luxury tax.
The move leaves them with just one benefit that is an open roster spot that indicates they would be prowling for opportunities in the offseason market.
The only problem for Jazz is the uncertainly. Letting go of a seasoned player like Rayson Tucker and if things do not turn in their favor in the case of Rudy Gobert the move would be disastrous. The move to trade the asset for cash can have just one upside that is the world knows now that they are playing a contender's game. The signings are indicative of the same as well but ideally, no trade is ever made with a sole motive to make some space.
