Five-time All-Star and former No. 1 overall pick John Wall announced his retirement from the NBA on Tuesday. Wall, who turns 35 on September 6, last played with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2022-23. Plagued by knee injuries, he appeared in only 147 games since 2017-18. Drafted first overall by the Washington Wizards in 2010, Wall spent nine seasons with the franchise, averaging 19.0 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 573 career games. “Every jersey I’ve worn meant more than wins and stats,” he said in a video message. The Wizards honored him as “a forever Wizard” in their tribute post.
Wall was traded to Houston in 2020 in a blockbuster deal for Russell Westbrook. He played one season with the Rockets, missed 2021-22, and returned briefly with the Clippers before closing the chapter on a remarkable, if injury-marred, career.
