Pelicans are rethinking everything, including a split from Zion Williamson

Zion Williamson is increasingly viewed as outside New Orleans’ future plans. Despite another adductor injury, trade talks haven't started, but his injury history and unique max contract involving weight clauses complicate his value. Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reports the Pelicans will listen to offers for Williamson, plus Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy III. Both wingers have team-friendly deals under $30 million annually.

New Orleans demands a high price, specifically multiple first-rounders for Jones or Murphy. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel notes a Jones trade is becoming exponentially more likely due to a 3-20 start, though he’s ineligible to be moved until January 14. While Fischer suggests Murphy is available, conflicting reports exist.

The Athletic’s Will Guillory clarifies that no substantial discussions about them have occurred yet. With James Borrego as interim, the franchise seems pivoting toward lottery rookies Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen, evaluating all options but waiting for the right price.
