The New Orleans Pelicans have decided to hold off on using the final one of the three first-round draft selections they acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2019 Anthony Davis trade until 2025. This implies that the Lakers, who are scheduled to select 17th overall in the first round of this year's draft on June 26, will keep their selection.
The Pelicans are now down to just their own first-round selection, which comes in at No. 21 in this year's draft. The final Lakers asset owed to the Pelicans from the Davis trade, cannot be used after 2025 per the terms of the agreement. Pelicans used the first Lakers pick to get guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, guard Didi Louzada, and center Jaxson Hayes; none of them are now with the Pelicans. Later, Australian winger Dyson Daniels was chosen eighth overall by New Orleans in 2022 with the use of a second Lakers first-round pick.
