Sri Lanka’s 83-run victory over the Netherlands 

Sri Lanka ended their winless streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 with an 83-run victory over the Netherlands in St. Lucia on June 17. Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis both scored 46 runs, helping Sri Lanka post 201, making them only the second team to achieve a 200-plus score in this tournament. The Netherlands, who needed a win and favorable results from the Bangladesh vs. Nepal match to reach the Super 8s, won the toss and opted to bowl.

They had a perfect start when Kingma dismissed Pathum Nissanka for a duck in the first over. However, Kamindu Mendis and Kusal Mendis stabilized the innings with a 39-run partnership. Kusal, who scored 46 off 29 balls, and Dhananjaya de Silva increased the scoring rate. Dhananjaya added 34 off 26 balls, while Asalanka, in top form, hit 46 off 21 balls, including five sixes, as the Dutch bowlers struggled.
