Bayern Munich maintains its lead in the German Bundesliga

Matthijs de Ligt, a Dutch defender, scored a spectacular goal as Bayern Munich defeated Freiburg 1-0 on Saturday to maintain first place in the German Bundesliga. De Ligt scored the game-winning goal at Europa-Park Stadion in the 51st minute of the second half with a powerful shot into the top corner of Freiburg's net.

With 58 points after 27 games, Bayern Munich has moved two points ahead of second-position holder Borussia Dortmund, who defeated Union Berlin, currently in third place, 2-1 in another Bundesliga game on Saturday. Dortmund scored goals through Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko. Union Berlin's Kevin Behrens scored a goal as well but could not find the equalizer later.  In the German league, Union Berlin is at 51 points. Freiburg is in fifth place with 47 points after losing to Bayern Munich at home.
