Canada manager Jesse Marsch has called for severe punishment for Manchester City following the club’s guilty verdict for extensive breaches of Premier League financial rules. Speaking to The Guardian, Marsch said his experience managing Leeds United convinced him there were clear inconsistencies in City’s operations. The Premier League ruled that City used sham commercial deals to inflate revenue and hide costs by more than £900 million across nine seasons. The club denies wrongdoing and has appealed, arguing the ruling contains major legal and factual errors.
Marsch claimed the disparity between Leeds and City was obvious, citing the 2022 summer window when both clubs reported profits despite vastly different financial realities. He also questioned City’s reported £52 million fee for Erling Haaland. Reuters said City had been contacted for comment. The club’s appeal will be heard privately, with possible sanctions ranging from fines and points deductions to relegation or title removal, though timing remains uncertain.
