Vieira sees progress but demands more after Senegal edge Comoros

Patrick Vieira assessed Senegal’s narrow 1‑0 win over Comoros, highlighting both encouraging signs and areas requiring improvement as the Lions of Teranga continue shaping their identity under his leadership. Iliman Ndiaye’s first‑half strike secured the friendly victory at the Stade Vélodrome, with Vieira rotating his lineup and pairing captain Kalidou Koulibaly with Mamadou Sarr in central defence.

Vieira said the team showed clear progress in executing his game plan, praising their discipline and commitment while acknowledging they conceded too many counter‑attacks. He stressed the need for greater aggression in the final third and sharper finishing, noting that several dangerous situations went unused. The coach also emphasised the strong group dynamic he inherited, describing a squad eager to learn, compete and embrace his ideas.

Vieira defended veterans Idrissa Gana Gueye and Koulibaly, calling their leadership invaluable. Senegal now sit second in Group J of AFCON qualifying, level on points with Mozambique.
