Concerns over Erling Haaland’s workload have intensified

Concerns over Erling Haaland’s workload have intensified after the Norway striker showed clear signs of fatigue during the 2‑1 Nations League defeat to Portugal. The 26‑year‑old was substituted after 67 minutes and immediately left on a private jet for a short break before returning to Manchester City, who face Liverpool on Sunday. Norway coach Stale Solbakken said Haaland was “thoroughly spent,” noting that several players had barely a week of rest before launching into a demanding schedule of club fixtures and international tournaments.

Solbakken stressed that Haaland carries one of the heaviest workloads in world football, playing every competition for City while leading Norway’s attack. Midfielder Patrick Berg echoed the concern, saying it was unsurprising the striker’s energy finally dipped. Norway’s players’ union NISO also issued a warning about escalating match demands, calling for clearer guidelines on recovery and rest. Haaland now has six days to recuperate before City resume their Premier League campaign at Anfield.
