The Boston Celtics could soon learn if Ben Simmons will join their roster, with a decision expected within the next week. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Simmons is weighing offers, with the Celtics, Kings, Knicks, and Suns all linked to the former No. 1 pick. Boston’s interest, first reported by Marc Stein, dates back to the start of free agency on June 30.
Simmons, who was bought out by the Nets last season, signed with the Clippers for the minimum. He saw solid regular-season minutes, averaging 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 51 games, but his role shrank dramatically in the playoffs. He averaged just 0.8 points over five postseason appearances as the Clippers were eliminated by the Nuggets in seven games. Simmons, 6-foot-10, remains one of the more intriguing names still on the market.
