Leonard preparing for Raptors camp amid trade uncertainty

Kawhi Leonard is expected to join the Toronto Raptors’ training camp in Quebec City, even though the major trade that would bring him back remains on hold. Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reports that both Leonard and the franchise are preparing as if the move will eventually be approved. The delay stems from the NBA’s ongoing investigation into whether the Los Angeles Clippers circumvented the salary cap through a $28 million sponsorship agreement between Leonard and Aspiration. Toronto paused the finalization after the league informed both teams that any post‑trade sanctions would fall on the Raptors.

The deal, agreed to on June 30, would send Leonard to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and a significant package of future picks. The investigation could extend into 2027 if the NBA, Clippers and NBPA fail to reach consensus. On the court, Leonard remains elite, averaging a career‑best 27.9 points last season. Toronto waits, Leonard prepares, and the league continues its review.
