Zach Edey, a rookie center for the Memphis Grizzlies, thrived in the post when playing at Purdue. He averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game for the national runner-up team in the previous season. But during the Grizzlies' preseason home defeat to the Charlotte Hornets, 119-94, on Thursday, there was an intriguing sight.
The 7'4", 305-pound Edey, in particular, made three three-pointers, which is two more than he ever tried in his four years at Purdue. Edey struggled offensively overall, missing all three of his tries and tallying just 10 points on 2-of-8 shooting (6-of-8 free throws). In addition, he pulled down five rebounds and stopped one shot. In Monday's 121-116 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, Edey's first preseason game, he finished with six points and seven rebounds without making any threes. For the huge guy, then, this was a completely new sight.
