The Lakers have waived guard Jordan Goodwin according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Although the Lakers had recently exercised Goodwin’s $2.3 million team option, only $25K was guaranteed, making him a cap casualty once Smart agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal. Smart’s contract will utilize the full $5.1 million bi-annual exception.
Bobby Marks of ESPN reports the move keeps the Lakers $1 million below the first tax apron, a requirement to finalize Smart’s signing. Goodwin, who played 29 games for the Lakers this season and averaged 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, also appeared in four playoff games. Because he has four years of NBA service, he is ineligible for a two-way contract, ending his stint with the team. The Lakers had also waived Shake Milton earlier in the day.
