Wizards hit hard as Watkins suffers ACL tear

Washington Wizards have been dealt a major setback after Jamir Watkins underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury sustained during Summer League action. The procedure was performed by Dr. Riley Williams at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery and was deemed successful. For Watkins, this marks the second serious ACL injury of his career, following the tear he suffered during his collegiate spell at VCU.

The Florida State product was selected with the forty‑third pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and later signed a two‑way contract with Washington, earning opportunities between the Wizards and their G League affiliate. Last season, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the G League, showcasing promising versatility before the latest setback. His recovery timeline has not been detailed, but the injury represents a significant blow for both the player and the franchise’s developmental plans.
