The Big Bash League match between Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder promised to be exciting but the last ball dramatic finish at Melbourne Cricket Ground was way more than promised. Renegades came close to a win but suffered a heartbreaking one-run loss instead. Thunders first raced ahead with an 80-run partnership between Englishman Alex Hales and Aussie Test hero Usman Khawaja but the real star of the match was Cameron Boyce and his five-wicket haul, with amazing figures of 5-21, helped limit the side to 170 runs as Boyce went on a rampage.
Renegades then took to batting and Aaron Finch once again stayed in form hitting 82 runs from 64 balls. Thunder took back control with late wickets and left Will Sutherland on the field with nine runs needed from three balls. A six and match could swing both ways with two runs needed from the last ball but Gurinder Sandhu defended well and helped Thunder edge out Renegades by a run.
