Bournemouth secure Antonio Silva in £26m defensive boost

Bournemouth have reinforced their back line with the signing of Antonio Silva, completing a deal worth around £26 million for the Portuguese centre‑back. The 22‑year‑old arrives from Benfica as a direct replacement for Marcos Senesi, who left on a free transfer to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Silva made 235 appearances for Benfica and was named Primeira Liga Defender of the Year in 2022‑23, helping the club secure the league title. He also featured in Portugal’s Nations League triumph last year, adding further pedigree to Bournemouth’s growing squad.

Tiago Pinto, the club’s president of football operations, praised Silva’s maturity, noting that despite his age he brings “outstanding experience at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.” Bournemouth, preparing for their first European campaign after earning a Europa League berth last season, open their Premier League schedule against Manchester City on August 23. The signing marks a significant step in their continued rise.
