Chelsea add experience with Welbeck signing

Chelsea have completed the signing of Danny Welbeck, with the 35‑year‑old striker joining on a two‑year contract after a successful spell at Brighton. The move marks a clear shift in strategy for the club, which is prioritising experienced profiles under new manager Xabi Alonso. Welbeck arrives with 400 Premier League appearances, 90 goals and 38 assists, bringing proven reliability to a young squad.

A product of Manchester United’s academy, Welbeck broke into the first team in 2008, winning the Premier League and two League Cups before moving to Arsenal, where he scored 32 goals across five seasons. He later spent a year at Watford before revitalising his career on the south coast, becoming a key figure for Brighton.

Chelsea are also close to signing Jordan Henderson, further underlining their veteran‑focused recruitment. Welbeck said he feels “honoured” to join the club and is ready to give everything to make supporters proud.
