PSV secure Mijnans as midfield rebuild gathers pace

PSV have confirmed the signing of AZ vice‑captain Sven Mijnans, strengthening their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The 26‑year‑old attacking midfielder arrives in Eindhoven on a five‑year contract, with AZ reportedly receiving €14 million for the transfer. Mijnans described the move as the “perfect next step,” praising PSV’s vision, leadership and facilities, while highlighting the club’s yearly pursuit of trophies and his childhood dream of playing in the Champions League.

Mijnans previously came close to joining PSV in the summer of 2025, but AZ blocked the deal. Technical director Earnest Stewart said the club had monitored him for years, calling him a clever, versatile midfielder with strong stamina, consistent end product and an impressive mentality.

Signed from Sparta Rotterdam in January 2023 for €1.5 million, Mijnans made 155 appearances for AZ, scoring 42 goals and providing 27 assists during his 3.5‑year spell in Alkmaar.
