River Plate have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Argentina international Thiago Almada from Atlético Madrid, with the deal expected to be announced after the World Cup. A source within River’s management confirmed that negotiations in Spain concluded successfully, while those close to the player said Almada is seeking regular playing time after struggling for minutes in Europe.
The 25‑year‑old forward, a 2022 World Cup winner currently competing in the tournament in the United States, is set to leave Atlético for a fee of around 20 million dollars in exchange for 50 percent of his registration rights, according to Argentine media.
Almada began his career at Vélez Sarsfield before spells with Atlanta United, Botafogo and Olympique Lyonnais, eventually joining Atlético. Last season he made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals. His arrival would mark one of River’s most significant signings in recent years as they reshape their attack.
