Shakhtar’s coach sent a clear a message to Inter

Arda Turan has highlighted Shakhtar Donetsk’s determination ahead of their European clash with Inter, describing his team as a symbol of hope for a country enduring war.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turkish coach discussed the challenges of exhausting journeys, lengthy away trips and separation from home. Despite these difficulties, Shakhtar have collected four points from their opening European matches.

Turan praised Inter manager Cristian Chivu, describing the Nerazzurri as capable of winning major competitions. However, his respect will not prevent Shakhtar from searching for opportunities to hurt their opponents.

The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid midfielder also spoke warmly about Hakan Calhanoglu, his former international teammate, calling him a brother and praising his leadership, composure and ability to control matches.

Among Champions League contenders, Turan highlighted Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, but revealed his preferred winner: Atletico Madrid.
