Spanish FA opens case over Barcelona’s pursuit of Álvarez

The Julian Álvarez saga has taken a new turn, with the Spanish Football Federation opening an official case into Barcelona’s alleged approach for the Atlético Madrid striker. On June 30, Atlético accused Barça of contacting the 26‑year‑old without permission, stressing that Álvarez remains under contract until 2030. According to Marca, both clubs have now been formally notified and must present their version of events before the RFEF decides how to proceed.

Barcelona continue to view Álvarez as a priority target for their attack, encouraged by the player’s past comments describing a move to the club as an honour and his desire for new challenges away from the Metropolitano. An offer was reportedly submitted on July 13, but Atlético’s firm stance has turned the negotiation into a volatile affair. A key moment arrives on August 10, when Álvarez is expected to join Atlético’s preseason. Barcelona, meanwhile, are already exploring alternative options.
