Caitlin Clark has set a new WNBA record, breaking the single-season assist record for a rookie previously held by Ticha Penicheiro. Clark achieved this milestone during Indiana Fever's game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday. Penicheiro's record of 225 assists, set in 1998 with the Sacramento Monarchs, had stood for nearly two decades. With a month and 12 games remaining in the 2024 season, Clark is poised to significantly extend this record.
This achievement adds to Clark’s impressive rookie season, which includes being the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double. On July 6, she accomplished this feat against the New York Liberty with 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds. Additionally, Clark set the WNBA single-game assist record earlier this season with 19 assists against the Dallas Wings on July 19. Currently, she leads the league in assists, averaging 8.3 per game, along with 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per contest.
