Despite selecting Victor Wembanyama this summer, the San Antonio Spurs don't seem to be in a rush to make a postseason run. Despite having plenty of salary cap room this offseason, they served as a clearinghouse for undesirable contracts throughout the free agent period. They received second-round choices in exchange for eating the expiring contracts of Cam Payne ($6.5 million), Cedi Osman ($6.7 million), and Reggie Bullock ($10.4 million). The only players they have signed are Sandro Mamukelashvili ($2 million per year), Julian Champagnie ($4 years $12 million), and Tre Jones ($20 million over two years). That hardly screams "playoff push" to me.
Victor Wembanyama has joined the Spurs, but they are still a pretty youthful squad. They should play it safe this summer and aim to make their push when the time is right, unless Wembanyama enters the league as an All-NBA calibre player already.
