Afghanistan: Pybus takes over from Jonathan Trott

Following Afghanistan’s premature elimination during the group stages of the current T20 World Cup, Richard Pybus has been officially appointed as the national team's new head coach. The experienced Englishman succeeds Jonathan Trott, who commanded the national side throughout a significant four-year period.

Pybus arrives possessing an extensive and distinguished coaching curriculum vitae. Notably, he steered Pakistan to the 1999 World Cup final. Moreover, while serving as West Indies' Director of Cricket, he oversaw a golden era where the men’s, women’s, and Under-19 squads all clinched World Cup victories in 2016. His Caribbean tenure included roles as High Performance Director and interim head coach.

He also held a brief, somewhat debated position leading Bangladesh in 2012. His immediate assignment involves managing the team during the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka in the UAE. This fresh era formally commences with the opening T20 match scheduled for Sharjah on March 13.
