Sri Lanka name squad for Galle test against India

Sri Lanka have confirmed a 16‑player squad for the opening Test of their ICC World Test Championship series against India, beginning August 15 in Galle. Dhananjaya De Silva will captain the side, with Kamindu Mendis appointed vice‑captain. The squad includes the return of Niroshan Dickwella, set to reclaim the wicketkeeping role after Kusal Mendis was ruled out through injury. Pathum Nissanka also misses the match as he continues recovering from wrist surgery.

Sri Lanka have added fresh options in the batting department, with Pasindu Sooriyabandara earning a call‑up after strong domestic performances. Young off‑spinner Keshara Nuwantha is another potential debutant, rewarded for his impressive record at domestic level. Left‑arm quick Dilshan Madushanka also returns, having last played Test cricket in 2023.

Sri Lanka currently sit sixth in the WTC standings with a 41.67% points percentage, while India hold fifth place at 48.15% after nine matches and four wins.
