Pakistan have named Sahibzada Farhan as captain for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, marking a significant change in leadership for the shortest format. Farhan replaces Salman Ali Agha, who led the side at the T20 World Cup but is absent from the 15‑man squad selected for the series beginning October 9. The 30‑year‑old opener, top scorer at the World Cup with 383 runs, recently guided Pakistan to a silver medal at the Asian Games and is one of several players from that group promoted to the senior team, including Abdul Samad, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed.
Despite his elevation in T20Is, Farhan is not included in the 16‑man ODI squad led by Shaheen Shah Afridi for the tri‑series against Sri Lanka and England, which serves as preparation for next year’s World Cup. The ODI event begins October 18 and features a double round‑robin format before the final on October 31 in Lahore.
