Bangladesh have appointed South African coach Malibongwe Maketa as assistant coach of the men’s national team, replacing Mohammad Salahuddin, who recently moved to lead the BCB High Performance Unit. Maketa, 46, has signed a contract running from October 2026 to November 2028 and will link up with the squad in the UAE ahead of the one‑off Test against Afghanistan and a subsequent ODI tri‑series featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. A CSA Level 4 coach, he brings more than twenty years of experience across domestic, international and development cricket.
Maketa said he was grateful for the opportunity and eager to work with Phil Simmons and a young, promising group of players. His résumé includes roles as assistant coach of South Africa’s senior team, head coach of South Africa A, South Africa U19, the National Academy and the Warriors franchise. Most recently, he guided South Africa Emerging to the CSA One‑Day Cup Division 2 title and led South Africa to the U19 World Cup semi‑finals.
