The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) recently sold three franchises for a new women’s T20 tournament, modeled after the men’s version and the IPL. This sale successfully generated over INR 4 crore. Tentatively planned for June 1 to 15, the competition will run alongside the men’s league following the IPL. Although details are pending, the seven-match event focuses on local cricketers from Mumbai’s extensive club network. It intends to feature stars like Jemimah Rodrigues, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare as icons, alongside a player auction.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik hailed the enthusiastic bidding as a validation of their strategy to upgrade women's cricket. He highlighted that corporate involvement reflects rising commercial confidence in the sport. The organization is fully committed to establishing a competitive, professionally managed system that offers a robust stage for emerging talent to shine. This pioneering move aims to create sustainable growth paths for dedicated women cricketers locally.
