Shanaka returns as Sri Lanka reshuffle squad for England ODIs

Dasun Shanaka has earned an ODI recall for Sri Lanka’s tour of England, setting up his first appearance in the format since January 2024. The former captain and legspinner Sachindu Colombage are the new additions to the ODI squad, while pacers Milan Rathnayake and Pramod Madushan have been left out after the rain‑affected series win in the Caribbean. Shanaka’s return adds valuable experience to the middle order ahead of next year’s World Cup.

For the T20Is, Charith Asalanka headlines the changes after a strong Lanka Premier League campaign, scoring 385 runs and earning the vice‑captaincy for the entire tour. LPL top‑scorer Lahiru Udara also joins the squad, alongside Janith Liyanage and ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Rathnayake. Several players from the West Indies tour have been omitted.

Sri Lanka begin the England tour with T20Is in Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester from September 15, followed by ODIs in Chester‑le‑Street, Leeds and The Oval starting September 22.
