Mitchell Starc has signalled he is open to extending his international career long enough to feature in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, saying his competitive drive remains strong after sixteen years at the top. The thirty‑six‑year‑old, Australia’s third‑highest wicket‑taker across formats, stepped away from T20 internationals last year to focus on Tests and one‑day cricket.
Speaking on Saturday, Starc said he still enjoys the challenge of elite competition and the camaraderie of playing alongside long‑time teammates. Despite ongoing elbow and shoulder niggles, he insisted his body is holding up well under the demands of international cricket.
Starc, currently representing Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was player of the series in Australia’s recent four‑one Ashes triumph. While acknowledging that the next World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia is still distant, he said the tournament remains a major ambition and he will continue assessing his fitness and motivation year by year.
