Worcestershire Rapids booked a home semi-final in the Metro Bank One Day Cup with a convincing six-wicket victory over Surrey at New Road.
Surrey’s innings was led by Gus Atkinson, who made a surprise appearance and top-scored with 60. However, Worcestershire’s bowlers struck at regular intervals to restrict the visitors to 266 for 6. Tom Taylor set the tone by bowling Adam Thomas early, while Ben Gibbon impressed with control and removed Rory Burns for 43. Ben Foakes managed only 6, leaving Surrey struggling to build momentum. In reply, 19-year-old Dan Lategan struck a maiden List A fifty, before Kashif Ali’s fluent 80 put the Rapids in command. Captain Jake Libby then guided the chase with an unbeaten half-century, sealing top spot in Group A. With Gloucestershire’s result also in play, the win confirmed Worcestershire as semi-final hosts.
