The ADUO system, meant to offer Formula 1 a balanced alternative to full performance equalisation, has instead plunged Red Bull into an unexpected bind. In Monaco, the FIA privately shared the first checkpoint results, triggering immediate reactions: Audi introduced upgrades in Barcelona and Ferrari prepared new components for Austria. Red Bull, however, were shocked to learn they had been classified as the top ICE manufacturer, leaving them barred from making any improvements.
The‑Race.com reports that the FIA is ready to explain the data behind the decision, though confidential information from rival engine suppliers will remain protected. The evaluation concerns only the internal combustion engine, meaning Mercedes could still possess the strongest overall power unit when hybrid elements are included.
The situation may worsen. The FIA will publish ADUO‑1 findings only before the Belgian Grand Prix, and if Mercedes fail to upgrade their ICE by Hungary, Red Bull will remain frozen for the second evaluation period as well.
