Francesco Bagnaia endured a disastrous return from the summer break, crashing at Silverstone in what he described as one of the strangest incidents of his career. The Ducati rider struggled all weekend, missing direct Q2 access and qualifying only 16th after a subdued Q1. His fortunes did not improve in Sunday’s race, where he slid out at Luffield, the same corner where he fell one year ago, after a sudden front‑end collapse while accelerating out of the turn.
Television images captured his disbelief upon returning to the garage. Bagnaia explained that he had been trying to stay calm, build pace gradually and manage tyre wear, eventually lapping in the 1:59 range before the crash. He admitted he never expected to lose the front in that phase of the corner, calling it an unusually anomalous fall. Ducati will now analyse the data to understand the cause of an incident that capped a deeply frustrating weekend.
