Jalen Brunson made two fast baskets and found Mitchell Robinson for an alley-oop jam early in the first quarter, setting the tone. The Knicks were energised by Karl-Anthony Towns (knee contusion), who missed his first two shots but made a three-pointer and scored inside. The Knicks then established a 23-12 lead with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter when Brunson sank consecutive three-pointers, giving him 12 points already.

New York maintained a 27-23 advantage as Indiana finished the quarter with a 10-2 run. Tyrese Haliburton only managed two points (0-for-2 shooting), and the Pacers shot 36.8 percent (7-for-19) overall. Brunson scored 14 points on an effective 6-for-9 shooting effort. Towns started the second quarter aggressively with a floater and a and-one layup while Brunson was on the bench.
