India fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been officially warned and given one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston. The sanction relates to Article 2.9, which covers throwing the ball at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner. The incident occurred in the eighth over of England’s innings, when Brar collected a return drive and hurled the ball back towards batter Ben Duckett, missing him by a fraction.
On‑field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth official Russell Warren, reported the offence. Brar admitted the charge and accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, removing the need for a formal hearing. The ICC highlighted the importance of maintaining player safety and ensuring that competitive intensity does not cross into unsafe behaviour. Brar’s demerit point will remain on his record for twenty‑four months.
