Knight bids farewell after 16 years at the highest level

Heather Knight has announced she will retire from international cricket at the conclusion of England’s ongoing Test against India at Lord’s, ending a decorated 16‑year career. Debuting in 2010 as an 18‑year‑old, Knight amassed 15 Tests, 160 ODIs and 145 T20Is, more appearances than any other England women’s player. She became vice‑captain in 2014 and succeeded Charlotte Edwards as captain in 2016, later leading England to the 2017 ODI World Cup title. Knight said she felt “grateful and privileged” for her journey, praising teammates, coaches and medical staff for their support.

Her captaincy ended after last year’s Ashes defeat, but she remained central to England’s batting, featuring in her seventh T20 World Cup this year. Knight is England’s third‑highest run‑scorer in both white‑ball formats and the first English cricketer to score international centuries in all three formats. Now general manager of London Spirit, she steps away with a legacy that will endure for decades.
