Australia head coach Shelley Nitschke has signed a three‑year contract extension that will keep her in charge of the women’s national team until mid‑2029, with the announcement arriving just days before the T20 World Cup in England. Nitschke originally succeeded Matthew Mott in 2022 and has since overseen major successes, including Commonwealth Games gold and the 2023 T20 World Cup title, while maintaining Australia’s position atop both white‑ball rankings. However, her tenure has also featured semifinal exits in the most recent ODI and T20 global tournaments, adding urgency to the next cycle.
The new deal places Nitschke at the helm for four major events: the 2026 and 2028 T20 World Cups, the inaugural 2027 Champions Trophy and the 2028 Olympics. Australia will also contest back‑to‑back Ashes series in 2027 and 2029. Nitschke said she is motivated by the challenges ahead, praising the squad’s quality and expressing excitement for the upcoming phase.
