Feyenoord topple AZ to take Eredivisie lead

Feyenoord claiming first place in the Dutch league for the first time since November 2025, after overcoming previously leading AZ Alkmaar with a convincing 2-0 victory at home.

The hosts controlled much of the opening period, creating several opportunities before Nacho Ferri capitalised on a defensive mistake by Wouter Goes to break the deadlock. AZ struggled to establish an attacking rhythm, although Mexx Meerdink threatened to restore parity and later won a penalty that was overturned following a VAR review.

Feyenoord strengthened their advantage shortly before the hour mark when Spanish defender Javi López headed home from a corner, putting the Rotterdam side firmly in control. Despite further chances for both teams, the score remained unchanged. Feyenoord now turn their attention to Como in the Champions League, while AZ prepare to face Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Europa League next week.
